Yanmar Marine is introducing four engines in its new-generation BY series, developed under a very close working relationship with luxury car manufacturer BMW.
The company says that the combined technologies of these two market leaders should set new standards for high performance marine engines and significantly widen the propulsion package choice for boat builders and their customers.
These are four-cylinder diesels at 150MHP (110kW) and 180MHP (132kW), plus six-cylinder models at 220 MHP (162kW) and 260 MHP (191kW), rated speed 4,000 rpm. The engines will be available for both shaftdrives and sterndrives.
At two litres and three litres, they are lighter, more compact and cleaner than the models they replace. The engine dry weights are 250kg and 310kg respectively. Length (with gear to output flange) by width by height of the 180 MHP 4BY180 is 882x758x740 and the 260 MHP 6BY260 is 1151x758x740. All of the engines in the range meet the new EPA Tier 2 and European RCD emissions regulations.
These Yanmar diesels are similar in weight to petrol engines of equivalent capacity, and produce a similar rate of acceleration.
Electronic control is by second-generation common rail with magnetic injectors and the engines include a CAN bus system with NMEA 2000 protocol.
They are turbocharged and intercooled. The turbocharger on the inboard four-cylinder and all the six-cylinder models is wastegated.

The inline four cylinder configuration with its double overhead camshaft and four valves on each cylinder allows smooth exchange of intake fuel and exhaust for more power. This is matched with an electric fuel injection system that delivers just the right fuel/air mixture for any load and speed for excellent power and economy.
FEATURES
Lighter weight & compact: At 377 pounds, the new F115B is 24 pounds lighter than the previous generation (F115LA). Weight savings come from a variety of new materials, such as a composite lower pan and cowling, a single ram power trim and tilt mechanism and a new lightweight mounting bracket.
More powerful: The F115's powerhead is all-new with increased bore and stroke, now measuring a full 1.8 litres. At the same time, this double- overhead cam (DOHC) four-cylinder design gets larger intake and exhaust valves for easier breathing, more power and better midrange torque. Complementing the new valves and cylinder head is a new 60-mm single throttle body with Yamaha's long intake track system, and a new free-flow exhaust manifold. Compression ratio is increased, and so is the full-throttle rpm range: 5,300 to 6,300. A knock sensor, an unexpected feature in this class of outboard, allows the engine to operate constantly at peak output. The result is terrific acceleration and a zero-to-200-foot time that's 0.7 sec. faster than that of the F115A.
Versatile: The F115 is just right for so many kinds of boats: pontoons, bay boats, fish'n'skis, sport boats, deep V aluminum boats, RIB inflatables and more. Its lightweight, high-strength mounting bracket uses the same mounting holes as most other models of outboards. Available in three models, it can be equipped for either remote control or use with a tiller handle. Like its big brother, the F150, the F115 comes in both left and right-hand rotation for use in twin applications.

Yamaha’s all-new, V6 Offshore series takes the proven 4.2 litre engine platform to the next level by incorporating technological advancements previously only seen on Yamaha’s flagship V8 425hp XTO.
The new F250 not only looks good with it's more aggressive styling, but comes with Yamaha's Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust system, which delivers increased prop grip and thrust for improved maneuvering in docking situations and reversing up to your next big catch.
Another cool feature is the new Total TiltTM system which allows the outboard to fully tilt up and down from any position, with a simple double push of the Up or Down Tilt buttons. This not only makes operation easier, but the new mounting bracket system allows the engine to sit higher out of the water when not in use, for improved long-term durability and protection.
When combined with Yamaha’s Helm Master EX control system, the new V6 Offshore F250 delivers a boating and fishing experience unlike any else on the water.

DTS Advantage: Mercury’s DTS (Digital Throttle and Shift) brings out the best from the outboard and takes your boat performance to the next level. It enables an instant throttle response, precise handling & control, minimum or no lag, and smooth acceleration. Unlike the mechanical cable, the electronic throttle control in DTS passes the commands through the boat motor’s computer via sensors and wires. This arrangement makes the throttle control easy & quick. Also, the steady, digital throttle control enables better fuel efficiency.
